Instrument for writing or drawing documented since the 7th Century. It is designed to hold a small amount of ink and then release it when the pen touches the support. Until the 19th Century, it was identified as a quill pen (generally a feather of the right wing of the goose, as the curvature is in accordance with the hand) which was tempered and sharpened.
