Lemma
weave
Method in which one weaves the warp with the weft in a textile. Simple weaves are composed of a single warp thread and a single weft thread, among these, the most common are those in which the weft crosses the each single warp thread so as to determine a simple and regular design. Oblique and diagonal designs are characteristic of herringbone weaves. The term canvas, utilized in painting to identify one of the most common supports in modern times, in reality identifies one of the fundamental types of textile weaves, in which each warp thread alternates over and under the weft, determining a uniform, compact textile, without a front or a back.
