Element of the carpenter’s clamp, used to distinguish the approximate width of the wood to be held in place. Giacinto Carena (1853)describes it as a "piece of wood in the shape of a bracket or a latch (that roughly has a right-angled form), sliding along the bar of the carpenter’s clamp."
