It is a solvent of the chlorohydrocarbon class, particularly volatile, of characteristic odor and with a slight tendency to decompose in air and light. Presents an optimum solvent capacity in conjuction with vegetable waxes and resins, even if highly oxidized. Its use in restoration appears underlined and often not advised for its toxicity (its anesthetic effect) and for its aggressiveness which may soften the pictorial film in oil. |
