Indicates the opacity that may develop on a varnished surface. In restoration, the term essentially refers to the phenomenon when this develops on finishing varnishes, for the most part caused by damp conditions. The effect is equally observed to coincide with the use of a solvent that is too volatile, due to the rapidness in which the surface becomes cold, for the immediate evaporation of a liquid that absorbs heat.
