Wax extracted from the leaves of a Brazilian plant, the wax-producing Copernicia. It is hard, fragile, oily and varies in colour (from green to grayish-yellow). It is used in pictorial techniques (to substitute beeswax) and, above all, in restoration, where it is utilized mixed together with other waxes to increase the fusion point, strength, resistance, and shine and to decrease the plasticity and the tendency to crystallize. |
