It is a compass used to trace large circles or arches or for measuring distances which are larger than those measured with a divider. It consists of only one straight leg (usually triangular in shape) where a point or a pencil is attached but able to slide. At one of the extremities, there is a fixed point to center the circles which are to be traced.
