Italian term. Indicates a particularly sharpened point (similar to a needle) utilized for tracing locating points on a preparation for the successive application of colours. The term is documented, among others, in the treatise of Cennino Cennini (end of the 14th Century): "But first scratch the perfection of the folds with an iron point or a 'agugella'."
