It is a solvent in the alcohol group, very volatile, with similar properties to those of ethyl alcohol, even if more toxic. In restoration, it is used on varnishes that are not very old and as a solvent of the alcoholic type without water. It may also be employed to dilute colours of paint for restoration to substitute the highly toxic xylol.
