Juice obtained by cutting the leaves of some species of the lily family that are found in Africa, the Antilles and elsewhere. It is of various colours from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown or green. It was used as a base (in alcohol or Venice turpentine) for glazes and patinas, in particular in the course if the 16th Century. It was amply used by Leonardo da Vinci, who obtained very similar effects to those products from the glaze of copper resinate. |
