Byproduct of the fabrication of sugar, consisting of an impure syrup that does not allow crystallization. In painting, as honey and sugar, it may be mixed with solutions of glue and gesso in the priming of canvases to render them more elastic. It may also be used as an emollient in the paste for lining.
