Tree of the Iuglandaceae family, made of hard and compact wood. It is frequently used as a support for paintings in Central and Southern Europe, particularly in France (in the regions of the south Loire) and in Italy (where it sporadically appears compared to the most common and appreciated poplar). Its use is also documented in Northern European schools, even though it is uncommon to the region.
