Tool of ancient origin (the most ancient examples were from the Roman era), used in carpentry, to flatten, thin and smooth the wood. It is formed by a piece of wood and through a central hole (eye), a cutting iron rod in the form of a chisel, set into the wood and positioned in a way to slightly surpass the inferior surface of the piece of wood (sole). A wedge closes the end of the iron resting on two supports of the eye. |
