Generic term to indicate a series of design instruments of ancient origin, used to trace segments including perpendicular and parallel lines (by adjusting the instrument). Generally, it consists of a triangle with external borders that are perfectly rectified and often graduated. The best edge is usually obtained with a triangle made of boxwood or wood from a pear tree.
