The fibre is particularly robust and presents a minor hygroscopicity compared to linen canvases: among the natural fibres, it is the most resistant to agents of decay, weather and humidity. As other cellulose fibres, it is sensitive to acids, but resists well to the alkali. The colour is brilliant and varies from yellow to grayish-silver. Given its strength, it is particularly appreciated for operations of lining in restoration.
