egg tempera
A kind of tempera in which the binder is the egg yolk. In accordance with the custom documented in the medieval and renaissance workshops, egg yolk was mixed with a minimum quantity of water and, after occasionally adding vinegar drops and fig milk, the pigment was added to obtain a properly thick paste.
