Beam placed transversely to a structure,with the function of sustainment, reinforcement or at least a connection. The term is used, among other things, to indicate elements of the stretcher, the carpentry of a painting or the batten. In reference to a wooden Crucifix, the term may indicate the horizontal arm of the structure.
