In the process of the creation of a work, indicates, according to a procedure defined in the Renaissance, the phase immediately preceding that of the material realization of the work in its definitive dimensions. In painting, in particular, the bozzetto is generally identified as a painting of inferior dimensions to those which one wishes to obtain. It is already carefully studied in composition and colour - that is, the model, in which all of the components that will make up the final work, has already been examined in depth through preceding sketches and studies. Even though one defines bozzetto differently from abbozzo (see abbozzo), in artistic literature, the use of the two terms is often analogous. |
