Lemma
skeg
or heel. Metallic utensil in the form of a chisel with a border containing two teeth or grooves and utilized in sculpture. Its use is also documented to incise thin parallel grooves onto a hardened layer of intonaco. The term gradine, to which it is often associated, instead indicates an instrument with a similar form and identical use, but is characterized by a greater number of teeth.
