Common name of esters of fatty acids with alcohol containing a high number of carbon atoms, of vegetable or animal origin. In painting techniques and in restoration, beeswax finds particular use, less so than candelilla and carnuaba wax. Although inappropriately, paraffin (not containing esters) is traditionally considered a wax, both for its similarity in aspect and properties. |
