Lemma
parchment glue
It is a glue that is a member of the group of adhesives of animal origin and that, obtained directly from pieces of parchment, contains fewer impurities than skin glue. It was widely used in antiquity for gesso grounds and for the confection of tempera colours. Two different recipes for its preparation are indicated by Cennino Cennini (end of the 14th Century).
