In Chemistry, relative to or that has properties of alkali, it is a substance capable of forming salts with acids. In particular, with metals, one speaks of alkaline metals (lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium). When these react with water, they develop hydrogen and produce hydroxide solutions with a strong base reaction.
