Solution obtained by agitating slaked lime in a large amount of water: filtered, it is limpid, colourless, odorless and slightly alkaline. As a base for diverse methods of painting “a secco,” mixed with egg whites and casein glue, it was used in the past for tempera painting on lime-prepared intonacos. In restoration, lime water may be used for the cleaning of frescoes.
