Antique instrument dating previous to the Egyptian Civilization and deriving from the plumb line. It is used to verify vertical lines and is in the form of an A, with a right angle at the top where a plumb line is attached through a hole and hung. It serves to judge the inclination of a level: when the plumb line reaches the transversal element (corresponding to a mark indicated for this purpose), the level will be horizontal.
