Italian term meaning a tear or a rip. It is an operation in which an extreme solution is necessary for the conservation of a fresco. The operation foresees that a canvas is adhered to the surface of the fresco by applying a layer of glue onto the painting and the canvas. It is then left to adhere for an appropriate amount of time, and after the "strappo" is performed by beginning the removal of the work from one of the extremities. Differing from stacco, the method foresees removing only the superficial film of colour and of the intonaco maintaining the possibility to recuperate the sinopia, if in existence. The successive operations are the same as those for stacco. |
