Shiny white metal that is flexible and malleable. It does not oxidize in air but may blacken as it may form a layer of sulfide. It melts in nitric acid, sulfuric acid and alkaline cyanide solutions. For its use in painting techniques see silver-plating, metal coating and Mecca Gilding.
