Lime derived from cooked limestone in which the percentage of impurities remains under 6%. In comparison to lean lime, fat lime is more adapt to painting: it slakes quickly, gives more volume to the lime paste and takes well to surfaces. The term is equally documented, even if rarely, to indicate a lime mortar with a low percentage of sand: in this sense the entry is registered in the Vocabulary of Filippo Baldinucci (1681). |
