Lemma
dead colour
For the most part, the term is used in the plural: dead colours - indicates a monochrome abozzo, generally in black and white. However, the expression may also be used to indicate a layer of colour (an abozzo for example) that, in the phases of the creation process of a work of art, it is destined to be hidden (and thus die) by the overlapping of new layers of colour.
