Tree of the Fagaceae family, with wood that is hard, heavy and water resistant. It was among the most common used as a pictorial support in Central and Northern Europe, particularly in Flanders, France and Germany, where above all the variety, English Oak (Quercus robur sessiliflora), is used. The use is also documented (even if less common than poplar) in Italy. |
